How to Conquer Magnetic Island in 48 Hours

Pack the sunscreen, your best summer hat and a sense of adventure as you board the ferry to Magnetic Island.

The short 20 minute ferry ride will have see you arriving in pure bliss in next to no time. Getting around the Island is simple with buses, taxis, tours, walking trails and hire cars available. But, if you really want to explore ‘the island way’ we recommend going topless – hiring a topless car, that is.

Day 1

Morning – Cameras at the ready for some epic views

Prepare a keen eye and lace up the hiking boots before you head to Magnetic Island’s spectacular Forts Walk. This trail offers the best vantage point for impressive coastal views and is home to a series of historic WWII fortifications. With more koalas living on Magnetic Island than people, this is also the perfect location to spot koalas in the wild.

Lunch – Beachside Dining

Unwind and cool off from your hiking ventures with a beach side meal at one of Horseshoe Bay’s bars, cafes or restaurants. Before heading out for more island adventures take a moment to enjoy the relaxed, tropical vibe of this bay. If you want some action why not get wet and try out the watersports on offer.

Afternoon – Meet the ultimate cuties

If you thought the koalas were cute, wait until you meet the rock wallabies that call Geoffrey Bay home – they are downright adorable. Grab some wallaby food from the nearby newsagency and they will feed right from your hands. These little guys aren’t camera shy either so try your luck at getting a #selfie.

Day 2

Breakfast with the koalas

Fancy an Aussie buffet breakfast complete with koalas for company? Make sure you head to Bungalow Bay where breakfast with the koalas is held each Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. After you’ve devoured as much bacon and pancakes as possible, be sure to jump on a wildlife tour at Bungalow, it’s the best way to get up close and personal with Australian wildlife.

Lunch amongst nature’s paradise

When you’re holidaying in paradise it seems fitting to pack a picnic and immerse yourself in the landscapes that surround. We suggest a lunchtime picnic at Radical Bay – natures secret hidden gem.

Afternoon – discover the untouched bays and beaches

No island escape is complete without a snorkel and fishing adventure! For this you can’t go past the family friendly experience offered by Aquascene Charters. Discover secluded bays and beautiful fringing reefs – it’ll be a highlight of your holiday and the perfect way to conclude 48 hours of wanderlust!
